ARTICLE THREE: DEFINITle <br /> <br />Section i - 100 Definitions <br /> <br />For the purpose of this Ordinance, certain terms and words are hereby <br />defined; terms not defined herein shall be construed in accordance with <br />adopted building codes or their customary usage and meaning. <br /> <br />Abut ting: Hav ing property or distr ict I ines in common, or two (2) <br />objects in immediate contact. <br /> <br />Access: Means of approaching or enter ing a property, includes aright <br />of passage to and from an adjacent street. <br /> <br />Accessorv Use or Building: An "accessory use or building" is one <br />customarily a part thereof, which is clearly incidental and secondary to <br />permitted use and which does not change the character thereof, including <br />but not limi ted to garages, carports, bathhouses, greenhouses, tool <br />sheds, or swimming pools. <br /> <br />Accessory Structure: A detached, subordinate structure, the use of <br />which is clearly incidental and related to that of the principal <br />structure or use of the land, and which is located in the same lots as <br />that of the principal structure or use. <br /> <br />Alley: A public way which, when at least twenty feet (20') in width, <br />may be used for vehicular service access to the back or side of <br />properties otherwise abutting on a street or highway. <br /> <br />Apartment: See dwelling - multi-family. <br /> <br />Board of Adjustment: The Zoning Board of Adjustment of the City of La <br />Porte. <br /> <br />Boarding House: A building, built and/or used for residential purposes, <br />where meals for five (5) or more persons are served for compensation. <br /> <br />Buildable Area: Area o~ the building site le~t to be built upon a~ter <br />the required yard area has been provided. <br /> <br />Building: A "building" is any structure built for the support, shelter, <br />or enclosure of persons, chattels or property of any kind and which is <br />affixed to the land. <br /> <br />Building Codes: All building regulations referred to as the Southern <br />Building Code Congress International (S.B.C.C.I) as amended from time to <br />time and adopted under the La Porte Code of Ordinances. <br /> <br />Building Inspector: As the term is used in this ordinance shall mean <br />the designated Chief Building Official of the City of La Porte, or his <br />designated representatives.
