<br />e <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 96-2079-A <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE <br />CITY OF LA PORTE, BY ADOPTING THE MOST RECENT APPROVED EDITION OF <br />THE STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1994 EDITION, AND APPENDICES, WITH <br />AMENDMENTS; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; CONTAINING A <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; <br />AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. <br /> <br />Section 8-13 of the Code of Ordinances of the <br /> <br />City of La Porte is hereby amended, to hereafter read as follows, <br /> <br />to-wit: <br /> <br />"section 8-13 AdoDted <br />The Standard Building Code, 1994 Edition, and appendices as <br />adopted by the Southern Building Code Congress International, <br />a copy of which is on file in the office of the City Secretary <br />of the City of La Porte, Harris county, Texas, is hereby <br />adopted and designated as the Building Code of the City of La <br />Porte, incorporated by reference in this article, and made a <br />part hereof, as fully as if copied at length herein; provided, <br />however, Sections 102.2.1 and 102.2.2, are amended, and shall <br />hereafter read as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />"102.2.1 Building Official Qualifications. The building <br />official shall have at least ten years experience or <br />equivalent, as an architect, engineer, inspector, <br />contractor, or superintendent of construction, or any <br />combination of these, five years of which shall have been <br />in responsible charge of work. The building official <br />should be certified as a building official through a <br />recognized certification program." <br /> <br />"102.2.2 Chief Inspector Qualifications. The building <br />official, with the approval of the applicable governing <br />authority, may designate chief inspectors to administer <br />the provisions of the Building, Electrical, Gas, <br />Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. Each chief inspector <br />shall have at least ten years experience or equivalent, <br />as an architect, engineer, inspector, contractor, or <br />superintendent of construction, or any combination of <br />these, five years of which shall have been in responsible <br />charge of the work. They should be certified through a <br />recognized certification program for the appropriate <br />trade."" <br />
