<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 96- 2146 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING AN AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 6, SECTION 7, "SICK <br />LEAVE" , OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE PERSONNEL POLICY HANUAL DATED <br />JANUARY 1, 1992; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CI~USE; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />section 1. <br /> <br />Chapter 6, section 7, Paragraphs 1, 2, and 3, <br /> <br />"sick Leave", of the City of La Porte Personnel Policy Manual dated <br /> <br />January 1, 1992, is hereby amended, and shall hereafter read as <br /> <br />follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />"SECTION 7 - SICK LEAVE <br /> <br />1. Regular full time employees shall accrue sick leave at <br />the rate of 4.62 hours per pay period. Twenty four hour <br />shift personnel shall accrue sick leave at the rate of <br />7.39 hours per pay period. Accrual of sick leave shall <br />be unlimited. <br /> <br />2. sick leave may be taken due to the emplc)yee' s personal <br />illness, non work related injuries, or routine health <br />care appointments which cannot be reasonably scheduled <br />outside of working hours. Department Directors have the <br />discretion to allow a regular employee up to twenty-four <br />(24) hours of sick leave per calendar year in the event <br />of an illness within the employee's immediate family or <br />household, or for routine health care appointments for <br />the employee's immediate family or household which cannot <br />be reasonably scheduled outside of working hours. sick <br />leave shall not be used for unexcused absences. <br /> <br />3. sick leave exceeding five (5) work days in any six month <br />period may cause an employee to be placed on physical <br />report status. Employees under this status shall be <br />required to submit to their supervisor a medical doctor's <br />statement of fitness for duty upon returning to work from <br />an illness. Failure to submit such medical statement may <br />result in disciplinary action. Physical report status <br />shall remain in effect for six (6) months from the date <br />of the action. Any leave charged to employees' sick <br />leave balance shall be subject to this provision, with <br />the exception of sick leave used in cClnjunction with <br />Family Medical Leave." <br />
