<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 99-2306 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY <br />OF LA PORTE ON JANUARY 16, 1999, FOR THE PURPOSE OF VOTING FOR OR <br />AGAINST THE ADOPTION OF A SECTION"B SALES AND USE TAX AT. THE RATE <br />OF ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT (.5%); AUTHORIZING THE LEVY OF THE <br />APPROVED TAX EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1999; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. There was held in the City of La Porte on the 16th <br /> <br />day of January, 1999, an election for the purpose of voting for or <br />against the adoption of a Section 4B sales and use tax at the rate <br /> <br />of one-half of one percent (.5%). <br /> <br />section 2. There were cast at said election the following <br /> <br />number of votes: <br /> <br />FOR the adoption of a Section 4B sales and use tax at the <br />rate of one-half of one percent (.5%) - 483. <br /> <br />AGAINST the adoption of a Section 4B sales and use tax at <br />the rate of one-half of one percent (.5%) - 276. <br /> <br />The number of votes by which the proposition was approved is 207. <br /> <br />section 3. The City Council of the City of La Porte hereby <br /> <br />levies the approved section 4B sales and use tax at the rate of <br />one-half of one percent (.5%), effective July 1, 1999. <br /> <br />section .. . <br /> <br />The City Secretary shall, by certified or <br /> <br />registered mail, send the state Comptroller a certified copy of <br />this Ordinance and a map of the City clearly showing the City's <br /> <br />boundaries. <br /> <br />section 5 . <br /> <br />That said election was duly called and notice <br /> <br />thereof given in accordance with law; that said election was held <br /> <br />in the manner required by law; that due returns of said election <br /> <br />have been made by the proper officers; that said returns have been <br /> <br />canvassed by the City Council of the City of La Porte; that said <br />
