<br />~ T <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2001-246~-A <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING A RE-DISTRICTING COMMITTEE, AND <br />ESTABLISHING ITS POWERS AND DUTIES; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />section 1. The City council of the City of La Porte hereby <br />appoints the following resident of the City,of La Porte to the Re- <br />Districting Committee established by this Council in Ordinance <br /> <br />2000-2460, passed and approved on the 11th day of December, 2000, <br /> <br />to-wit: <br /> <br />District 4: <br /> <br />Charlie Perry <br /> <br />The Chairman shall appoint an alternate or alternates as <br /> <br />required to establish a quorum at any meeting. <br /> <br />section 2. Following publication of the 2000 Federal Census, <br /> <br />the Re-Districting Committee shall conduct an investigation and <br /> <br />determine the population of the City, and the population of each of <br /> <br />the districts from which district Councilpersons are elected. Each <br />such determination shall be based upon th~ best available data, <br /> <br />including, but not limited to, the 2000 Federal Census. Each such <br />determination shall be reported by the Re-Districting Committee to <br /> <br />City Council, which shall express the results of such determination <br /> <br />in an ordinance, which shall be a final determination for purposes <br /> <br />of the Home Rule Charter of the City of La Porte. After any such <br /> <br />determination, if the distribution of population among the various <br /> <br />districts is determined by City Council to be materially <br /> <br />unbalanced, the Re-Districting Committee shall, following public <br />notice and an opportunity for public input, recommend to City <br /> <br />Council the establishment of new boundaries for the election of <br /> <br />district Councilpersons. <br />
