<br />AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFFICE OF CHIEF OF POLICE OF
<br />THE CITY of LA PORTE, TEXAS; PROVIDING FOR APPOIlf'1l4ENT OF DE-
<br />PUTIES; PR&SCRIBING THE DUTIES AND AUTHORITY OF SUCH OFFICER;
<br />FIXING THE. CalPENSATION AND PROVIDING WHEN AND FROM WHAT FUNDS
<br />IT SHALL BE PAID; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES
<br />IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY CCKMISSION OF TIlE CITY OF LA
<br />PORTE, TEXAS:
<br />
<br />Section 1. That there is he~eby created the office or
<br />
<br />Chief ot Police for the CIty of La Porte, Texas, Such Chief of
<br />
<br />Police may '~ppolnt one or more Deputies, which appointment shall
<br />
<br />only be valid upon the approval of the City Commission.
<br />
<br />Section 2, The Chief of Police shall, in person or by
<br />
<br />Deputy, attend upon the Corporation Court while in session, and
<br />
<br />shall promptly and faithfully execute all writs and process is-
<br />
<br />sued f1'Om said Court. He shall have like power, with the Sheriff
<br />
<br />of the County, to execute warrants; he shall be active in quelling
<br />
<br />riete, disorder and. disturbances of the p&ace within the city
<br />
<br />limits and shall take into oustody all persons so offending a-
<br />
<br />gainst the peace of the city and shall have authority to take
<br />
<br />suitable aha suffioient bail for the appearanoe before the corpo-
<br />
<br />ration 'court of any person charged with an offense against the
<br />
<br />. ordinances or 1aW8 of the city. It shall be his duty to arrest,
<br />
<br />without war~nt, all violators of the public peaoe, and all who
<br />
<br />" '

<br />obstruct or interfere w1th h1m in the execution of the duties of
<br />his office or who shall be gu11ty of any disorderly oondu9t or
<br />disturbanoe ~hatever; to prevent a breach of the peace or preserve
<br />quiet and gOOd order, he ~hal1 have authority to close any theatre,
<br />ball room or other place or building of public resort. In the pre-
<br />vention and 8uppress10n of crime and arrest of offenders, he shall
