PORTE AND THE CIT <br />OFFICIALS IN 1.IHE SUIT FILED IN THE DISTRICT COURT OF HARRIS COUNTY <br />BY E. A. THOMAS, ET AL, PROVIDING FOR A CCI4PENSATION AND THE PAY- <br />MENT THEREOF, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a suit has been tiled in the District Court of <br /> <br />Harris County, Texas, by E. A. Thomas and others, against the City <br />ot La Porte and against certain City otticials; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Attorney of the City of La Porte is a <br />party defendant in the suit; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners have decided that it <br />1s proper and necessary to employ a practicing attorney to repre- <br />sent the City in said suit; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIO <br />OF THE CITY OF LA. PORTE, TEXAS: <br /> <br /> <br />Section 1. That Ernest A. Knipp, an attorney licensed t <br />practice, and practicing, before the Courts of Harris County, Texa , <br />be, and he is hereby, appointed as attorne1 and employed to defend <br />. <br /> <br />in such suit in behalf of the defendants 1n said suit and he is <br /> <br />hereby authorized to take whatever action is necessa~ in connect1 <br />with said suit in the proper defense thereof. <br />Section 2. That the said Ernest A. Knipp be paid, as <br />compensation tor his services in said suit, a retainer tee in the <br />sum ot One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) cash and a per diem at the <br />rate of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) each day in Court, exclusive <br />of the first day and that such compensation be paid out ot current <br />funds in the general funds of the City. <br />Section 3. That an emergency exists constituting an <br />imperative public necessity that the rule requiring ordinances to <br />be read at three several meetings be suspended and this ordinance <br />take effect and be in force from and atter its passage and approva , <br />and it 1s so ordained. <br /> <br />Passed and approved this the <br /> <br />4th ~day of <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Dec-wer <br /> <br />A.
