RESOLUTION 99- 24 A RESOLUTION ENDORSING A PROPOSED PEDESTRIAN BICYCLE TRAIL SYSTEM FOR LA PORTE AND AGREEING TO PARTICIPATE IN FUTURE FUNDING IF APPROVED BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION UNDER THE STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of La Porte have expressed a strong interest and desire for a pedestrian and bicycle trail system for the City; and WHEREAS, the City of La Porte Comprehensive Plan includes a pedestrian and bicycle trail plan as a component of said Comprehensive Plan, and further endorses a proposal for a pedestrian bicycle trail system for the City of La Porte; and WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation provides funding for pedestrian bicycle trail systems through the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program; and WHEREAS, the City of La Porte is in the process of submitting application for participation in the said Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program for a pedestrian bicycle trail system for the City; and WHEREAS, the Program requires that the City fund said pedestrian bicycle trail system and, upon approval, be reimbursed for eighty percent of the cost of the program; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte finds that a pedestrian bicycle trail system would be in furtherance of the goals established by the City in the Comprehensive Plan of the City, and further finds that such a system would be of direct benefit to the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the City of La Porte; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of La Porte, that the City of La Porte support participation in the proposed Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program, and that the City of La Porte agrees to provide funding for said program pursuant to the terms of said program, should the application(s) of the City of La Porte for participation in the program be approved by the Texas Department of Transportation.
