<br />RESOLUTION <br />99-24. <br />* * .* * <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING A PROPOSED PEDESTRIAN BICYCLE TRAIL SYSTEM FOR LA PORTE <br />AND AGREEING TO PARTICIPATE IN FUTURE FUNDING IF APPROVED BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT <br />OF TRANSPORTATION UNDER THE STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of La Porte have expressed a strong interest and desire for a pedestrian and <br />bicycle trail system for the City; and <br /> <br />WH EREAS, the City of La Porte Comprehensive Plan includes a pedestrian and bicycle trail plan as a component <br />of said Comprehensive Plan, and further endorses a proposal for a pedestrian bicycle trail system for the City of La Porte; <br />and <br /> <br />WH EREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation provides funding for pedestrian bicycle trail systems <br />. through the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte is in the process of submitting application for participation in the said Statewide <br />Transportation Enhancement Program for a pedestrian bicycle trail system for the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Program requires that the City fund said pedestrian bicycle trail system and, upon approval, be <br />reimbursed for eighty percent of the cost of the program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte finds that a pedestrian bicycle trail system would be in <br />furtherance of the goals established by the City in the Comprehensive Plan of the City, and further finds that such a system <br />would be of direct benefit to the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the City of La Porte; <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of La Porte, that the City of La Porte <br />support participation in the proposed Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program, and that the City of La Porte agrees <br />to provide funding for said program pursuant to the terms of said program, should the application(s) of the City of La Porte <br />for participation in the program be approved by the Texas Department of Transportation. <br /> <br />--1"" l PASSED AND APPROVED, by the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas. on this the 12~ day of <br />,JU y .1999. <br /> <br />CITY OF LA PORTE <br /> <br />BY:~d4~ <br /> <br />, RMAN L.
