14 5. Location of exit doorways. Exit doorways shall be so lo- cated that no point in a floor area, room or space served by them is more than 100 feet distant from an exit doorway, measured along the line of travel; except that when a floor area is subdivided into smaller areas, such as rooms in hotels, multifamily houses, and office buildings, the distance from the door of any room, along an unobstructed hallway, to an exit doorway, shall. be not more than 125 feet, except that hallways above the first story shall not extend beyond an exit as a dead end more than 50 feet. Where the build- ing is of fireproof construction or semifireproof construction, or the building is sprinklered, the above distances may be increa~ed 50 per cent. . .j . 23 * As defined in Federal Specification SS-C-ISI b, Masonry Cement.
