WALLS . <br /> <br />(a) Exterior walls and aU bearing walls shall l::e of masonry or of <br /> <br />reinforced concrete. <br /> <br />(b) Exterior walls which are wi thin 3 feet of a lot line along an <br /> <br />adjoining area which is or nay be built upon or which are within 6 feet of another <br />building of other than fireproof or semifireproof construction on the sane lot" <br /> <br />shall have a fire resistance rating of not less than 3 hours; except that where <br />the total area of the buildings does not exceed Ii times the allowable area for <br /> <br />anyone of the buildings considered such fire resistance rating shall not be <br /> <br />required. <br /> <br />3. BEAJLS, GJRDmS AND JOISTS. <br /> <br />(a) Vfooden beams and joists" except headers and tail joists" and <br />except for bearings at joints limited within the allot'l/'able stresses provided <br />in this Ordiname, shall have bearings of at least 3 inches in length. <br />(b) Vlooden trimmers, headers, and tail joists over 6 feet in length, <br /> <br />unless supported on walls or girders, shall be hung in approved metal stirrups <br />or hangers. IflT oed girders are set flush with the noor joists, the joists <br /> <br />shall rest :iJi approved IIetal stirrups or hangers. The ends of joists against <br />the girders shall be securely nailed to the girders. <br />(c) Except in the case of pitched roofs" wooden floo!' and roof <br />joists having spans in excess of B feet shall be rigidly braced with contin- <br />uous rOW's of bridging at intervals not exceeding B feet. <br />(d) Joists shall becbubled under partitions which run over and <br />parallel to the joists, or shall l::e designed for the load. <br />(e) The ends of wooden beams and joists resting on masonry shall be <br /> <br />cut to a bevel of 3 inches in their depth. <br />(f) Wooden joists, beams and girders resting on opposite sides of a <br /> <br />masonry waJl shall be separated from one another by at least 6 inches of solid <br /> <br />masonry. <br /> <br />(g), When a i'V' ooden girder rests on masonry an air space of i inch <br /> <br />shall be provided on the sides and end of such girder for ventilation, and each <br /> <br />wall bearing end of a girder shall be cut on a bevel. <br />
