<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />-7- <br /> <br />GRADE, with reference to a building, means, when the curb level has <br /> <br />been established, the mean elevation of the curb level opposite those walls <br /> <br />that are located on, or parallel with and within 1.5 feet of, street lines; or, <br />. Vi'hen the curb level has not been established, or all the walls of' the building <br />elI'e more than 1.5 feet from street lines, "gradellmeans the mean elevation of' the <br /> <br />grmmd adjoining the building on all sides. <br /> <br />HABITABLE ROOM means a room occupied by one or more persons for liVing, <br /> <br />l~ating or sleeping; and includes ldtchens serving apartments or individual <br /> <br />households, but does not include bathrooms, toilet compartments, laundries, <br />:3erving and storage pantries, corridors, basement and other spaces that are not <br /> <br />used frequently or during extended periods. <br /> <br />HEIGHT as applied to a building, means the vertical distance from <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />grade to the highest finished roof surfac e in the case of flat roof's, or to <br />a point at the average height of roofs having a pitch of more than one foot <br />in 4i feet; "height" or a building in stories does not include basements, ex- <br /> <br />--- <br />/ " <br /> <br />cept that in school buildings of ordinary, noncombustible or wood frame con- <br /> <br />struction, the basement shall be deemed a s tory when used for purposes other <br />than storage or heating. <br /> <br />HEIGHT as applied to a wall, means the vertical distance to the <br />top measured from the foundation wall, or from a girder or other immediate <br />support of' such VIall. <br /> <br />HOLLON MASONRY UNIT means a masonry unit whose net cross-sectional <br /> <br />area in any plane parallel to the bearing surface is less than 7.5 per cent <br /> <br />of its gross cross-sectional area measured in the same plane. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />LOT means a portion or parcel of land considered as a unit, devoted <br /> <br />to a certain use or occupied by a building or a group of buildings that are <br /> <br />united by a common interest or use, and the cust,o,ID.ary' accessories and open <br /> <br />spaces belonging to the same. <br /> <br />LOT LmE means a line dividing one lot from another, or from a <br /> <br />street or other public space. <br /> <br />MASONRY means brick, stone, plain concrete, hollow brick, solid <br />block or other similar building units or materials" or combinations of them, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />bonded together ",lith mortar.
