LlMI7:S' TO C171ES W1711 A POPULATION OF <br />/00,000 OR GREATER. <br /> <br />* * * * <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the current stale policy regarding the inswllation. maintenance, and operation qf trqtfi.c <br />signals on the state highway ,\ystem in incorporated cities of less than 50/)()() population calls fi)r n~as <br />DepartmelU (~f Trall.\portatiOll (TxDoT) to be re.\ponsible .Ii)r such duties when requested by the city council, <br />mayor, or city manager,' and <br /> <br />WHEREAS. such policy forces moderately sized clties to face exponential leaps in the quantity qf trqffic <br />signals they will have to assume re.\ponsibiliO'fin. maintain inK and operating,' and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has heen determined by City Council that it is more appropriate for TxDoT to own, <br />operate, and maimain trqUic signals and as.mc:lated devices on roadway facilities within the corporate city <br />Limits until such city reaches a population (!l/OO,OOO or more when cities will have enough resources to <br />handle such an increase in re~pol1.\'ihility; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the costs associated with said trall.~li1r will he a large hurden on such cities; now, therc1fore <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE. BE IT RESOL VED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS: <br /> <br />Section I. That tfwfacts and recitations ,\'et.forth in the preamble qlthi.\' resolution are herebyfound <br />to he true and correct. <br /> <br />Section 2. That the City Council ofth(' City (!lLa Porte, Texas, hereby expresses its support that the <br />state policy he changed to set the population levels at less than IOO,(XJO/or incorporated cities/or which the <br />Texas Department (!f Transportation installs. maintains, and operates traJfie: ,\'ignals upon request hy the city <br />council, mayor, or city mal1aKer. <br /> <br />Section 3.
