e

e

Memo

To:

Honorable Mayor and City Council

T~ Campbell, Chairman of the Building Codes Appeals Board
All Building Codes Appeals Board Members
Debbie S. Wilmore, Chief Building Official
August 30, 2005
Adoption of Local Electrical Code Amendments

From:

CC:

Date:
Re:

At the June 25, 2005 meeting, Council considered the Building Codes Appeals
Board's recommendation to adopt the 2005 Ed. of the National Electrical Code
(NEC). The Board's recommendation was to adopt the new edition of the NEC (as
mandated by the State) without amending the existing local electrical amendments at
that time. Council approved Ordinance #96-2079F on that date and the ordinance
provided an implementation date of September 1, 2005.

The Board has now completed their review of the "current" local electrical
amendments. Attached to this memo you will find our recommendation and an
adoption ordinance. In accordance with past practices, the ordinance includes a
delayed implementation date. This will allow for mail notifications to electrical
contractors as well as required amendments to handouts for the public, staff
paperwork and the city website.

Members of the Board plan to be at the September 12, 2005 meeting and will be
available for questions. Thank you for your consideration.
