Mr. Armstrong met with staff and outlined basic principles and
procedures that seemed relevant. Mr. Armstrong is prepared to present the ordinance creating the appeals board to
suggest and recommend changes and local amendments to building related codes and to hear appeals of decisions of
the building official. This board would not take into account dangerous building hearings or other nuisance appeals
or hearings as was suggested at one time.

The board is designed to have seven members. There are no specific criteria other than residency of the city. It does
not suggest that each member represent a specific profession or hold any particular certificate. It is not on the
agenda tonight for appointments. Should the ordinance be adopted, staff would prepare an ordinance for the
appointments to the board at the next meeting.

Action Required bv Council:

Staff recommends approval of an ordinance creating the Building Codes Appeals Board for the City of La Porte.

Aooroved for City Council Al!enda

D~~~

S-f-{)4

Date
