<br />CITY OF LA PORTE <br />ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />April 22, 2003 <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Debra Brooks Feazelle, City Manager ~fV <br />Carol Buttler, Director of Administrative servic~ <br /> <br />Youth Summer Employment - Pilot Program Proposal <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />RE: <br /> <br />As you requested, Human Resources staff researched area programs available for youth during the summer <br />months. <br /> <br />Based on City Council's request versus the information received, Human Resources staff recommends: <br /> <br />. a pilot seasonal employment program for 10 full weeks beginning June 2,2003, and ending <br />August 8, 2003. <br />. the program be intended as a training opportunity for students to: <br />· acquire skills necessary for the job market. <br />· become interested in public service as a career. <br />. students work as few as 20 hours or as many as 40 hours per week, depending on requests by <br />departments. <br />. a generic job description to allow for office and field type duties. <br />. students prepare a report on their experience and skills learned. <br />. an appreciation lunch on the last day of the program (Friday, August 8) with students providing a brief <br />overview of their experience working at the City of La Porte. <br />. a certificate of completion for student's use as ajob reference. <br />. a proc1aination presented by the Mayor at a City Council meeting. <br />. students be paid at least $5.15 hour (current minimum wage). <br />
