<br />'I <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />80-3 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Energy is proposing a restriction <br /> <br />on recreational watercraft; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the measure requires that an owner of a watercraft <br /> <br />shall not operate or permit operation of such watercraft one <br /> <br />day a weekend, or both days of the weekend, as determined by <br /> <br />the President or as specified by the Governor in accordance with <br /> <br />the provisions of an approved State Plan; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, boa'ting consumes less than one-half of one percent <br /> <br />of the nation's energy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Energy exempted other low fuel <br /> <br />,.e consumers from discriminating restrictions; and <br />WHEREAS, industry lawyers argue that the discrimination <br /> <br />against boating is illegal; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, recreational boating employs over 660,000 people <br />and is a 5.7 billion dollar industry; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY CO~4ISSION OF <br />THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS: <br /> <br />THAT, the Department of Energy's approving any such regula- <br /> <br />tion is strongly opposed by said City Commission. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED, this <br /> <br />16th day of <br /> <br />April <br /> <br />, A.D. <br /> <br />1980. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CITY OF LA PORTE <br /> <br />iTh ._--fJ:\ _ _ <br /> <br />J.
