<br />r' " <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />") <br /> <br />-. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />.; <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 81- t, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature, by and through the Sub- <br />commi ttee on Redis,tricting of the COIllini t.tee of the Whole Senate, <br />is soliciting information and comments relating to Senatorial <br />and Congressional redistricting; and <br /> <br />NHEREAS, the tremendous growth occurring in East Harris <br />County necessitates the need for redistricting in order to pro- <br />vide the La Porte-Bayshore Area the representation to which it <br />is entitled; and, . <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte's population'has increased <br />from 7,148 in 1970 to 16,859 in 1980; and, coupled with the <br />extensive residential growth in the past decade has been a <br />corresponding level of commercial and industrial growth; and <br /> <br />NHEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte believes <br />that the growth that has occurred over the past decade, as well <br />as the expected continuation of such growth, should be recognized; <br />and, <br /> <br />l~HEREAS, the City Council of the City of La Porte believes <br />that the most important factor in the redistricting outcome is <br />that La Porte and the Bayshore Area be included in a Senatorial <br />District with areas and communities of commonality and undivided <br />in representation; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE THAT: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br />recommends that <br />Subcommittee on <br />Senate. <br /> <br />That the City Council of the City of La Porte <br />the following be seriously considered by the <br />Redistricting and the Committee on the Whole <br /> <br />A. That the Senate District in which La Porte and the <br />Bayshore Area shall be located be bounded on the <br />North by the Houston Ship Channel, on the East by <br />the Harris County Line, on the South by the Harris <br />County Line, and on the West by Interstate 45 and <br />Loop 610. <br /> <br />B. That the Congressional District to be considered in <br />the same manner as the Senatorial District. <br /> <br />C. That the State Representative District be bounded <br />on the North by the Houston Ship Channel, on the <br />East by the Harris County Line, on the West by <br />Loop 610 a.nd Interstate 45 and continuing South <br />within such boundaries a sufficient distance to con- <br />stitute a proper district. <br /> <br />Section 2: That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the <br />Subcommittee on Redistricting of the Committee of the Whole Senate. <br /> <br />Section 3: This Resolution shall take effect from and after <br />its passage by the City Council of the City of La Porte. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED THIS THE ~~~ DAY OF APRIL, A.D. 1981. <br /> <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />~tVJ1A4/ <br /> <br />/ <br />/ <br />/ <br />
