<br />CITY OF LA PORTE <br /> <br />INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: Steve Gillett, Director of Public Works <br />Orville Burgess, Street Superintendent .~ <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: February 24, 2006 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Candidates for Street Repair Utilizing Sales Tax <br /> <br />In anticipation of a possible sales tax election, we have prepared 2 preliminary lists of <br />streets to be funded for repairs. It is understood that all monies generated from this sales <br />tax election would be eannarked only for street repairs. With that in mind, one list is for <br />an overlay program. The estimated costs reflect a contractor providing a 1 and a half <br />inch hot mix overlay only. All work needed to prepare each street for an overlay would <br />be performed in house in advance. The total estimated cost for the overlay is <br />$2,022,198.00 and could be completed over a period of time to be determined by council. <br />The list is attached. <br /> <br />The second list is for concrete streets in need of repair and is more comprehensive in <br />scope. The cost estimate is for complete removal of existing streets or sections of street, <br />replacing them with 6 inches of new concrete, and replacing the curbs with new ones. <br />All this would need to be contracted out and the estimate reflects this cost. The total cost <br />for the concrete repair list is estimated at $3,399,546.00 and is anticipated that it would <br />be completed over a period of years to be determined by council. This list is attached <br />also, for review. The total estimated costs for both types of repair are $5,421,744.00. We <br />attempted to prioritize both lists, with those in greatest need of repairs or overlays listed <br />fIrst and in descending order of priority. Please advise if you have any questions or need <br />additional information. <br />
