<br /> <br />Recommendation to Audit Committee <br />Texas Property Tax Code: <br />Section 11.184: Organizations Engaged Primarily In Performing <br />Charitable Functions <br />The governing body of each taxing unit where the property is located must <br />pass a resolution granting the exemption or an election must be held allowing <br />the exemption. <br />Staff has been aproached by the Fraternal Order of Eagles to pass a resolution to adopt this <br />section of the Texas Property Tax Code. <br />If the City of La Porte opts to pass a resolution granting these exemptions it has two options: <br />1) Pass a resolution so that all types of primarily chartiable organizations qualify <br />2) Pass a resolution by organizational types. <br />Example of organizations: Fraternal Order, VFW, <br />American Legion, Masonic Lodge, etc. <br />The City of La Porte is not required by law to take any action on this section of the <br />Texas Property Tax Code. <br />Approve <br />Reason: <br />Reject <br />Reason: <br />Reviewed By: <br />
