<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005- <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING HB 1882 OR ANY LEGISLATION THAT <br />INCREASES THE MAXIMUM TRANSPORT HAULED OVER TEXAS <br />HIGHWAYS AND URGING OTHER TEXAS CITIES TO OPPOSE THIS <br />LEGISLATION; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; <br />AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, legislature is proposing legislation that would allow trucks to haul an extra <br />10,000 pounds of contained cargo, pushing the total allowed on the road, including the <br />tractor-trailer rig, to 90,000 pounds from 80,000 pounds; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, cities in Texas are currently experiencing a tremendous amount of road <br />damage as a result of trucks hauling heavy loads; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, heavy loads currently endanger the public safety of our citizens traveling <br />on these routes everyday; <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City of La Porte strongly opposes HB 1882 in its current form and any <br />legislation that would increase the maximum transport hauled over Texas highways, <br /> <br />Section 2. The City of La Porte urges all Texas cities to do the same. <br /> <br />Section 3. The City Council officially finds, determines, recites and declares that a <br />sufficient written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of this meeting of the City <br />Council is posted at a place convenient to the public at the City Hall of the City for the <br />time required by law preceding this meeting, as required by the Chapter 551, Tx. Gov't <br />Code; and that this meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all times <br />during which this resolution and the subject matter thereof has been discussed, <br />considered and formally acted upon. The City Council further ratifies, approves and <br />confirms such written notice and the contents and posting thereof. <br />
