<br />The City will discipline any employee found to have violated this policy. <br />Disciplinary action can range from a verbal or written warning up to and including <br />termination. If harassment by customers or vendors occurs, corrective action will <br />be taken following consultation with the appropriate management personnel. <br /> <br />4. Applicability <br /> <br />These personnel policies shall apply to all City employees except where these <br />policies may be in conflict with federal, state, or local legislation. Supplemental <br />rules for all City departments may be developed within the respective <br />departments so long as these departmental policies do not conflict with City <br />personnel policies and procedures. These policies relate only to matters of <br />personnel management and do not include any departmental procedures, <br />standard practices, standing orders or other technical matters. <br /> <br />The City of La Porte Civil Service Commission regulates all classified Civil <br />Service personnel in the Police Department and shall apply in case of any <br />conflict with the City of La Porte Employee Policies Handbook. Where Civil <br />Service policies are silent, the City of La Porte Personnel Policies apply. <br /> <br />5. Definitions <br /> <br />The words and terms used in this Employee Policies Handbook shall cover the <br />following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. <br /> <br />ABSENCE - Not at the assigned workstation during a scheduled time <br /> <br />ABSENCE WITHOUT LEAVE - When an employee fails to report for work or to <br />remain at work without proper notification, authorization, or excuse <br /> <br />ABSENTEEISM - The frequent or periodic practice of not being present for work <br /> <br />ANNIVERSARY DATE - The employee's date of hire or most recent promotion <br />date <br /> <br />CERTIFICATION PAY - Additional compensation for acquired skills in <br />accordance with approved departmental certification programs <br /> <br />CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE INFORMATION - Employee records, documents, <br />pay documents, etc. that are maintained by the City that will not be released <br />without proper required documentation <br /> <br />DEMOTION - A demotion is the assignment of employees from their current <br />grade level to a grade level having a lower maximum salary <br /> <br />Employee Policies Handbook/Page 6 <br />
