Area Map <br /> <br />Budgeted Item: _YES ..LNO <br /> <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />ill 1983, the City acquired a 16'x 400' strip ofland along the west side of Lots 1-16, Block 830 for <br />the purpose of constructing a future sanitary sewer tnmk main extension. However, the sanitary <br />sewer main was ultimately constructed in the adjacent S. 14th Street Right-of-Way. Recently, <br />Charles Douglas Boyle, the original Grantor of the land, approached the City to buy back the 6,400 <br />sq. ft. strip to unify his property with its original frontage to S. 14th Street (see Exhibit 3). <br /> <br />Staff conducted a review of Mr. Boyle's request and determined that the strip was of no future use <br />or benefrt to the City. Additionally, standard public bid procedures for the sale of the property may <br />be waived due to its irregular shape and that it lies wholly adjacent to Mr. Boyle's remaining <br />property in the block. <br /> <br />Staff ordered an appraisal of the subject strip (at Boyle' s expense) for which the fair market value <br />has been established at $1.75/sq. ft. Mr. Boyle has subsequently made payment to the City in the <br />amount of $11,200. A Special Warranty Deed for the conveyance of this property to Charles <br />Douglas Boyle and wife, Laura M. Boyle is included as Exhibit 2 of this packet. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends approving the sale of the above-descnbed property to Charles Boyle as it is of <br />no future use or benefit to the City of La Porte. <br /> <br /> <br />App ove an ordinance authorizing the conveyance of the west sixteen (16') feet of Lots 1 tlrrough <br />16, lock 830, Town of La Porte, to Charles Douglas Boyle and wife, LauraM.
