<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 1285-Q <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE No. 1285, "AN ORDINANCE IMPLEMENTING <br />POLICEMAN'S CrvIL SERVICE; ESTABLISHING CLASSIFICATIONS; NUMBER OF AUTHORIZED <br />POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION; ESTABLISHING PAY SCHEDULES"; CONTAINING A <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND <br />PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br /> <br />Section 1. <br /> <br />Section 1 of Ordinance 1285 is herby amended and shall <br /> <br />hereafter read as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />"Section One. <br /> <br />This ordinance is enacted pursuant to the adoption of <br /> <br />the policemans Civil Service Act (V.A.T.S. 1269m), recodified as Texas Local <br /> <br />Government Code Chapter 143, Municipal Civil Service, by the citizens of La <br /> <br />Porte in a referendum election on April 4, 1981. The provisions of said Act <br /> <br />are to the fully implemented upon the effective date of this ordinance." <br /> <br />Section 2. <br /> <br />Section 2 of Ordinance 1285 is herby amended and shall <br /> <br />hereafter read as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />"Section 2. There are hereby created the following classifications of <br /> <br />employees within the La Porte Police Department which shall be subject to the <br /> <br />provisions of V.T.C.A. Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 143, Municipal <br /> <br />Civil Service, to-wit: <br /> <br />Patrolman, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Assistant <br /> <br />Chief." <br /> <br />Section 3. <br /> <br />Section 4 is hereby added to Ordinance 1285 and shall <br /> <br />hereafter read as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br />"Section 4. <br /> <br />As authorized by V.T.C.A. Texas Local Government Code, <br /> <br />Chapter 143, Section 143.014, the City Council hereby provides that the Chief <br /> <br />of Police may appoint the person occupying the position in the classification <br /> <br />immediately below that of Chief of Police and that the person appointed to <br /> <br />this position serves at the pleasure of the Chief of Police." <br /> <br />Section 4. Except as hereby specifically amended, Ordinance No. 1285 <br /> <br />and amendments thereto shall remain in full force and effect. <br />
