<br />RESOLUTION 2009-.Q.f., <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE <br />INTRODUCTION AND PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION AMENDING THE TEXAS TAX CODE <br />TO PERMIT LA PORTE AND OTHER CITIES IN TEXAS TO UTILIZE HOTEL/MOTEL TAX <br />REVENUES FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF EXISTING RECREATION FACILITIES. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte, Texas, is a home-rule city located in east Harris County, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte, Texas has made significant commitments to the betterment of the <br />quality of life for all of its citizens, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte, Texas, has committed to exploring all possible avenues to <br />accomplishing its goals including applying for and receiving grants from the State and Harris County, <br />issuing debt and allocating funds from the general fund, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of La Porte, Texas, also collects a local hotel/motel occupancy tax. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE, TEXAS, THAT: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, supports the creation, introduction and <br />passage oflegislation that will amend the Section 351.101 (a) (7) (B), Chapter 351 of the Texas Tax Code <br />to allow the City of La Porte to collect hotel/motel occupancy taxes to promote tourism by the <br />enhancement and upgrading of existing sports facilities or fields, including facilities or fields for baseball, <br />softball, soccer and flag football. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas supports an amendment that adds section <br />351.101 (a) (7) (B) (iv) to the Tax Code to include cities with a population of at least 13,000 and no more <br />than 40,000 located in a County with a population at least 200,000. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED on this the 9th day of March, 2009. <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor, City of La Porte <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />0rI~~/dI <br /> <br />Martha Gillett, City Secretary <br />
