<br />City of La Porte - Main Street Program <br /> <br />P & Z, 2-19-09 <br /> <br />Enhancement Grant <br /> <br />MAIN STREET <br />ENHANCEMENT GRANT <br /> <br />Application Instructions <br /> <br />Please contact the Main Street Development office at 281-470-5017 to begin the application process. <br />If you have any building or sign permit questions, please contact the Permit Department at 281- <br />470-5074. <br /> <br />The City of La Porte is a member of the Texas Main Street Program, which is part of the Texas Historical <br />Commission. The Main Street Advisory Board works toward revitalizing and enhancing the unique <br />character of Downtown through historic preservation and community involvement. As an economic <br />incentive, the City of La Porte's Main Street Program designed the following incentive reimbursement <br />grant program in partnership with the La Porte Development Corporation. <br /> <br />PROGRAM DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />The Main Street Enhancement Grant (MS EG) provides matching funds to enhance existing building <br />design in the Main Street Design Certificate (MS DC) area (see attached map). Owners and tenants may <br />be eligible for the reimbursement grant as incentive to partner with the City of La Porte to achieve a <br />mutual goal of visually enhancing your business and the Main Street District. <br /> <br />The review criteria may include, but shall not be limited to, project compliance with all current <br />building standards, perceived need for proposed renovations to building, historical accuracy of <br />proposed renovations, design quality of the proposed renovations, the compatibility of design in <br />relation to other buildings, project compatibility with streetscape objectives and project compatibility <br />in relation to downtown development goals at time of application. <br /> <br />Definition of the MS EG: The La Porte Development Corporation is providing funds for up to a 50/50% <br />reimbursement match for no less than $2,500 and no more than $25,000 per grant for work approved by <br />the Main Street Design Assistance Review Team (MS DART). Multiple applications may be submitted <br />for the same property of an aggregate up to $25,000 within a three (3) year cycle from the date of the <br />initial grant on the same property. <br /> <br />Example: If in year one the applicant is awarded $15,000, and in year two they are awarded $7,000, in <br />year three they may be eligible for a matching grant of up to $3,000. <br /> <br />Reimbursement grants are available for the following types of projects: <br /> <br />. Fa~ade RehabilitationlEnhancement <br />Definition: Work done on existing structures, such as removing non-historic/added facades, <br />repointing brick or replacing mortar joints, replacing or restoring cornices, removing paint from <br />brick, replacing windows, restoring transom windows, repairing facades, etc. <br /> <br />MS ADS = Main Street Architectural Design Standards <br />MS DG = MS Design Guidelines <br />MS DART = MS Design Assistance Review Team <br /> <br />MS DC = MS Design Certificate <br />MSD = MS District <br />MS EG = MS Enhancement Grant <br /> <br />lof9 <br />
