This gmnt was used to create the position of the Victims Assistance Liaison. The grant <br />period will end August 31, 2003. It was determined that the continuation of this position would have to be grant <br />funded. We would like approval to authorize the City Manager to submit for a continuation gmnt made possible <br />through the Attorney General's Office. This grant, Victim Coordinator and Liaison Grant will be for a two-year <br />period for the amount of $86,738.00 which includes sa1;uy, benefits, training and equipment This grant does not <br />require a match from the City. <br /> <br />The Victims Assistance Liaison position has proved to be an asset to the City as well as the Conununity. This <br />program has insured the citizens of La Porte who have become victims of crimes, receive the assistance that they <br />may need. Since June 2002, the VAL has assisted 566 victims in La Porte. <br /> <br />Action Reouired bv Council: Authorize City Manager to secure a Resolution for the submission <br />of the Victim Coordinator and Liaison Grant for further funding for the Victims Assistance Liaison <br />position. <br /> <br /> <br />1- :/'(J-() "3 <br />Date <br />
