The City of La Porte was <br />awarded the grant for a 20-month period, which will end 8/31/03. This new position has proved to be very <br />successful and has ensured over 319 victims receive the assistance they needed. This position has also helped <br />victims submit over $70,000 in crime victims' compensation claims. <br /> <br />In anticipation of the grant period ending I would like approval to submit for a Violence Against Women Act Grant <br />made possible through the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division to further fund this position. The grant <br />would be for a 12 month period, starting 9/1/03 and ending 8/31/04. The grant request is for a total of $43,237.00 <br />which includes salary, training and equipment for this position. There will be a required 25% match for this grant, <br />which will be $10,809.00 and the cm portion would be $32,428.00 <br /> <br />Action Reauired bv Council: Request authorization for the acting City Manager to apply for and sign the <br />resolution to participate in the Violence Against Women's Act Grant made possible through the Office of the <br />Governor, Criminal Justice Division for the funding of the Victims' Assistance Liaison position. <br /> <br /> <br />Ir' <br />Date <br />
