The City of La Porte was awarded the grant for a 20-month period, which will end 8/31/03. This new position has proved to be very successful and has ensured over 319 victims receive the assistance they needed. This position has also helped victims submit over $70,000 in crime victims' compensation claims. In anticipation of the grant period ending I would like approval to submit for a Violence Against Women Act Grant made possible through the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division to further fund this position. The grant would be for a 12 month period, starting 9/1/03 and ending 8/31/04. The grant request is for a total of $43,237.00 which includes salary, training and equipment for this position. There will be a required 25% match for this grant, which will be $10,809.00 and the cm portion would be $32,428.00 Action Reauired bv Council: Request authorization for the acting City Manager to apply for and sign the resolution to participate in the Violence Against Women's Act Grant made possible through the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division for the funding of the Victims' Assistance Liaison position.
