RESOLUTION 2020-01 <br /> WHEREAS, injuries and deaths from impaired driving violations and crashes bring loss <br /> and suffering to the citizens of this community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the cost of such injuries brings economic hardship to families and <br /> communities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the community's health care system and emergency response resources are <br /> significantly impacted by injuries of commercial motor vehicle traffic crashes; and <br /> WHEREAS, research shows that impaired driving is a causative factor in many vehicle <br /> traffic crashes; and <br /> WHEREAS, failure to obey laws in regard to impaired driving, increases risk to all <br /> citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS,the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has shown that fatalities <br /> due to driving while impaired are significant in Harris County,Texas; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Impaired Driving Mobilization - STEP includes public education and <br /> intensified law enforcement to get the community and drivers to comply with laws <br /> regarding driving while impaired; <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of La Porte authorizes the City <br /> Manager to execute all documents for the Impaired Driving STEP Grant for December 10, <br /> 2019,through September 30, 2020;joining public and private sector leaders across Texas <br /> supporting the campaign;and urging all residents and visitors of La Porte to abide by traffic <br /> laws,to protect life and the quality of life in this community. <br /> 0.PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS the coo, "43 day of c )i u , 2020. <br /> CITY OF • 1 RTE,TEXAS <br /> A i <br /> Lou, R. ,' igby, Or <br /> ATTEST APPROVED AS TO FORM <br /> 11) <br /> , ,16 k <br /> e ood Id, City ecretary Clark T.
