ISN <br />AN ORDINANCE DETERMINING THE POPULATION OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br />AS ESTABLISHED BY THE 2010 U.S. CENSUS; FINDING THAT THE <br />DISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION AMONG THE VARIOUS COUNCIL DISTRICTS IS <br />MATERIALLY UNBALANCED; ESTABLISHING NEW DISTRICT BOUNDARIES FOR <br />THE RESIDENCE AND ELECTION OF DISTRICT COUNCILPERSONS; <br />CONFIRMING EXISTING POLLING PLACES; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE <br />OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of La Porte has heretofore, on February <br />14, 2011, appointed a City Council Re -Districting Committee to recommend the <br />establishment of new single -member council district boundaries for the residence and <br />election of District Councilpersons, pursuant to the requirements of Section 2.01 of the <br />Home Rule Charter of the City of La Porte, which requires an investigation and <br />determination of the population of each of the Council Districts from which District <br />Councilpersons are to be elected, after each federal census. The City Council Re - <br />Districting Committee, after conferring at a series of public meetings, submitted its final <br />recommendations to the La Porte City Council on October 10, 2011, at which time a <br />duly advertised public hearing was held to receive and consider comments from the <br />general public. A copy of the public hearing notice is attached hereto as Exhibit "A", <br />incorporated by reference herein, and made a part hereof for all purposes. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of La Porte finds that the population of <br />the City of La Porte as of March 24, 2011, as determined by the 2010 Federal Census <br />was 33,800. <br />Section 3. The population and ethnic breakdown of each current Council District <br />is as shown on Exhibit "B" attached hereto, incorporated by reference herein and made <br />
