ORDINANCE 2021-3835 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, <br /> DECLARING ELECTED THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE FOR THE SPECIAL <br /> MUNICIPAL ELECTION THAT WAS TO BE HELD ON THE 31ST DAY OF JULY, 2021, <br /> FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 1 AND THEREBY <br /> ENABLING THE CANCELLATION OF THE ELECTION; PROVIDING A SAVINGS <br /> CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN OPEN MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN <br /> EFFECTIVE DATE <br /> WHEREAS, On April 26, 2021, the City Council adopted Ordinance 2021-3826, calling a special <br /> election to fill a vacancy for the purpose of electing a Councilperson-District 1; and <br /> WHEREAS,Filing for the position was conducted in accordance with the Texas Election Code and <br /> only one candidate,Mandi Williams,filed for a place on the ballot;and <br /> WHEREAS,There were no declarations for write-in candidates;and <br /> WHEREAS,The City Council has accepted a Certification of Unopposed Status for Mandi Williams <br /> for the special election; <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE,TEXAS: <br /> SECTION 1. Mandi Williams is hereby declared elected for the office of Councilperson-District 1, <br /> subject to the taking of her oath as provided by the laws of the State of Texas. Mandi Williams shall <br /> hold office for the remainder of the seat's three-year term,which concludes at the time of the holding <br /> of the May 2023 general municipal election,and any resulting runoff, for the election of members to <br /> the La Porte City Council. <br /> SECTION 2. The special municipal election that was to be held on the 31 Sc day of July,2021,in the <br /> city, for the purpose of electing a Councilperson-District 1, is hereby cancelled. <br /> SECTION 3. Actions related to this election and its cancellation shall be held in accordance with, <br /> and shall be governed by,the election laws of the State of Texas.Additionally,the City Secretary and <br /> Mayor are hereby authorized to perform all duties and take all actions as required. <br /> SECTION 4. The City Secretary of the City of La Porte shall post notice of cancellation of said <br /> election on the bulletin board at City Hall not later than the twenty-first(21 s)day before election day. <br /> Such notice shall remain posted through election day.On Election Day,this notice will also be placed <br /> on the doors of the polling location that was to be used for the election. <br /> SECTION 5. The Mayor and/or the City Secretary of the City of La Porte are hereby authorized to <br /> execute and/or issue, for and on behalf of the City, such orders, documents, and forms as may, from <br /> time to time, be promulgated by the Secretary of State of the State of Texas in conjunction with the <br /> election herein ordained. <br /> SECTION 6. Each and every provision,paragraph, sentence and clause of this ordinance has been <br /> separately considered and passed by the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, and each said <br />
