ORDINANCE 2022-3885 <br />AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL <br />ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON THE 7TH DAY OF MAY, <br />2022, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A COUNCILPERSON AT -LARGE <br />POSITION A, A COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 4, AND A COUNCILPERSON <br />DISTRICT 5, AND APPROVING OR DENYING THE FOLLOWING PROPOSITION: <br />"THE REAUTHORIZATION OF THE LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX IN THE CITY OF <br />LA PORTE, TEXAS, AT THE RATE OF ONE-FOURTH OF ONE PERCENT TO <br />CONTINUE PROVIDING REVENUE FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF <br />MUNICIPAL STREETS. THE TAX EXPIRES ON THE FOURTH ANNIVERSARY OF <br />THE DATE OF THIS ELECTION UNLESS THE IMPOSITION OF THE TAX IS <br />REAUTHORIZED."; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION; FINDING <br />THAT NOTICE OF THE ELECTION WAS DULY AND PROPERLY GIVEN, THAT THE <br />ELECTION WAS PROPERLY HELD AND RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE <br />PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE; <br />CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; <br />CONTAINING AN OPEN MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE <br />WHEREAS, the regular municipal election of the City of LaPorte, Texas, for election of <br />members of the City Council as prescribed by Section 2.03 of the City Charter, and <br />the special election were held on the Vh day of May 2022, in the city, for the purpose <br />of electing a Councilperson At -Large Position A, Councilperson District 4, and <br />Councilperson District 5; and <br />WHEREAS the elections were held under and pursuant to the provisions of Ordinances 2022- <br />3861 calling the general election and 2022-3862 calling the special election, <br />respectively; and <br />WHEREAS the elections having been duly and regularly held as called and provided in said <br />ordinances and according to law, and the returns thereof having been made and the <br />election judges having certified the results of the election, as hereinafter set out, <br />and the City Council having duly and regularly'canvassed the returns of the election <br />and finding that the total votes cast at the election were as follows: <br />COUNCILPERSON AT -LARGE POSITION A <br />BRANDON LUNSFORD 773 <br />WYATT SMITH 370 <br />COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 4 <br />RICK HELTON 164 <br />COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 5 <br />JAY MARTIN 251 <br />
