ORDINANCE 2024-4005
<br />AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING A PRESIDING JUDGE ANDALTERNATE JUDGES
<br />FOR THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF RECORD IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE,
<br />TEXAS, FOR A TERM OF FOUR YEARS, EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2024, AND
<br />EXPIRING SEPTEMBER 30, 2028; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;
<br />CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE
<br />OPEN MEETINGS ACT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE,
<br />TEXAS:
<br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, hereby appoints Janikka Bratton
<br />as the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of La Porte, Texas.
<br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, hereby appoints Dick H. Gregg,
<br />III as Alternate Judge of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of LaPorte, Texas.
<br />Section 3. The City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, hereby appoints Chris Gore as
<br />Alternate Judge of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of La Porte, Texas.
<br />Section 4. The City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, hereby appoints John C. Cardenas
<br />as Alternate Judge of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of La Porte, Texas.
<br />Section 5. Each of the above appointees shall serve for a term of four (4) years, effective
<br />October 1, 2024, and expiring on September 30, 2028, and shall receive compensation as may
<br />be fixed by City Council.
<br />Section 6. If any section, sentence, phrase, clause or any part of any section, sentence, phrase
<br />or clause of this ordinance shall, for any reasons, be held invalid, such invalidity shall not
<br />affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and it is hereby declared to be the intention of
<br />this City Council to have passed each section, sentence, phrase or clause, or part thereof,
<br />irrespective of the fact that any other section, sentence, phrase or clause, or part thereof, may
<br />be declared invalid.
<br />Section 7. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent
<br />of such conflict only.
<br />Section 8. The City Council officially finds, determines, recites, and declared that a sufficient
<br />written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of this meeting of the City Council was
<br />posted at a place convenient to the public at the City Hall of the City for the time required by
<br />law preceding this meeting, as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas
<br />Government Code; and that this meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all
<br />times during which this ordinance the subject matter thereof has been discussed, considered
<br />and formally acted upon. The City Council further ratifies, approves and confirms such
<br />written notice and the contents and posting thereof.
<br />Section 9: This ordinance shall be effective from and after its passage and approval, and it is
<br />so ordered.
