MTIi It"11 <br />11M <br />IHEREAS, Texas joins, archival repositories across the nation to celebrate <br />rchives Month, which is nationally recognized annually to promote the <br />-eservation of our country's documentary heritage, from the federal level to the <br />cal community; and <br />WHEREAS, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) shares that <br />'Archives Month in Texas aims to celebrate the value of Texas' historical records, to <br />publicize the many ways these records enrich our lives, to recognize those who maintain <br />our communities' historical records, and to increase public awareness of the importance of <br />preserving historical treasures and making them available for use by present and future <br />generations."; and <br />WHEREAS, in La Porte, the City Secretary's office is responsible for developing and <br />administering records retention and destruction policies, monitoring the records storage <br />center, overseeing the control of electronically stored records; and <br />WHEREAS, throughout our community, additional documents, records, and treasures of <br />historical value are maintained and shared with the public by organizations such as the La. <br />Porte Historical Society, the La Porte Community Civic Club, local media and social clubs, <br />genealogists, and those with a love of history; and <br />WHEREAS, Archives Month serves to raise awareness of records management and its <br />function in society, to highlight current local preservation efforts, and to provide a free civic <br />forum to discuss records management issues in La Porte. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Louis R.
