I I CONCLUSION I It is expected that through this and future year's commitment to planning, City staff ~ill continue to become more results oriented. This, in turn, will a~low us to better position ourselves to be pro-active and decisive in long-range planning. This administration's goal is not simply to "fix" a one year budget problem but instead to take the necessary planning steps to resolve any long-term challenges before they become insurmount~ble problems. , I Only through careful planning can th~ City of ' La Port~ position itself to face the challenges created by a global economy which is fast paced and often turbu~ent. 'I a~ confident that planning is the major ingredient needed to successfully propel the C~ty of La Porte into the 1990's. I'- I Finally, I would like to acknowledge a job well done by staff members associated with the planning and design of this'bu~get. In particular, I want to personally extend my appr!,!ciation to Finance Director, Jeff Litchfield and his fine staff for doing'an o~tstanding job ,in helping to prepare the budget. Lastly, but most importantly, I want to thank this City Council for showing faith and dedicati,on in, this year's budg,etary process.
