Box 1115 <br />La Porte, Texas 77571 <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br />In connection with the purchase by the City of La Porte from <br />La Porte Land Company, of the property described on the enclosed <br />Deed, dated January 1, 1974, which Deed has been recorded under <br />Harris County Clerk's File No. El18878, I am pleased to enclose <br />herewith the original of said Deed, and Louisville Title Insur- <br />ance Company Owner's Title Policy in favor of the City of La <br />Porte, being POlicy No. 1400-057742, which policy insures the <br />City of La Porte that it has fee simple title to the property <br />described therein, subject only to the matters shown in Schedule <br />B thereof. <br /> <br />Although the Title Policy contains the standard prov1s1ons in <br />Schedule B, Paragraph 3, as to "taxes for the year 1974 and <br />subsequent years, not yet due and payable," the Deed having <br />been dated January 1, 1974, there is no legal liability on the <br />part of the City of La Porte for taxes for 1974 and subsequent <br />years, the City of La Porte being exempt from the levy of ad <br />valorem taxes for property owned by it. <br /> <br />The Title Policy is written for the amount of $25,000.00, being <br />the purchase price for the property. <br /> <br />On April 8, 1974, I contacted each of the tax assessors having <br />jurisdiction of this property, furnished them with a legal <br />description of the property, and requested that this property <br />be placed on the tax rolls in the name of the City of La Porte, <br />as exempt from taxation. <br />
