REQUEST FOR DRAINAGE COMMITTEE AGENDA ITEM
Appropriation
Agenda Date Requested:January 16, 2012
:N/A
Source of Funds
Julian Garza
Requested By:
Account Number:N/A
Department: Planning
Amount Budgeted:N/A
Report: _X_Resolution: _ _Ordinance: ___
Amount Requested: N/A
Budgeted Item: XYES NO
Exhibit: Hydrologic and Hydraulic Study for Taylor
Bayou
SUMMARY
On September 12, 2011, City Council Authorized Civil Tech Engineering, Inc. to proceed with the Taylor
Bayou Preliminary Engineering Design Report. The scope of work was defined in tasks to limit the scope
as needed. The results of the Hydrologic and Hydraulic study consist of Task 1 through 4 of the
Engineering Design Report proposal. These tasks were performed to evaluate the capacity of Taylor
Bayou and determine if structural flooding could be reduced by improving conveyance of Taylor Bayou.
It was determined that the 10-, 50- and 100-year water surface elevations of Taylor Bayou only cause
minor street flooding in the Shady River Subdivision and historical structural flooding in the subdivision
is likely caused by coastal storm surges in Galveston Bay.
The study did however indicate significant head losses at McCabe Roadand Taylor Bayou and
recommends replacement of existing culverts to eliminate the out-of-bank flooding upstream of McCabe
Road during extreme events.
Due to the status of development in the area this is not an urgent and does not require immediate
attention. Therefore, staff will work with Harris County and Harris County Flood Control in an effort to
partner on this project.
Action Required:
Present Taylor Bayou Preliminary Engineering Report findings.
Approved for Drainage Committee Agenda
___________________________________________________________
Steve Gillett, Interim City Manager Date
