NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION <br />FOR THE CREATION OF THE LA PORTE FIRE CONTROL, PREVENTION, AND <br />EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES DISTRICT DEDICATED TO FIRE SAFETY AND <br />EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AND THE ADOPTION OF A PROPOSED LOCAL <br />SALES AND USE TAX AT A RATE OF ONE-FOURTH OF ONE PERCENT (0.25$). <br />To the Registered Voters of the City of La Porte, Texas <br />Notice is hereby given that the polling places listed below will <br />be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on May 14, 2011, for voting <br />in a special election for the creation of the La Porte Fire <br />Control, Prevention, and Emergency Medical Services District <br />dedicated to fire safety and emergency medical services and the <br />adoption of a proposed local sales and use tax at a rate of one- <br />fourth of one percent (0.25t). <br />The form of the ballot for said election shall be substantially as <br />follows: <br />PROPOSITION NO. 1 <br />[ ] FOR The creation of the La Porte Fire Control, <br />[ ] AGAINST Prevention, and Emergency Medical Services <br />District dedicated to fire safety and <br />emergency medical services and the adoption <br />of a proposed local sales and use tax at a <br />rate of one-fourth of one percent (0.25t). <br />The approved fire control, prevention, and emergency medical <br />services plan is designed to enhance public safety in the City of <br />La Porte and specifies methods for annually evaluating the <br />effectiveness and efficiency of the individual fire control, <br />prevention, and emergency medical services strategies identified <br />in the plan. Those strategies to be supported by the District <br />include funding for a Safety/Training Officer for the essential <br />training of the members of the City's Fire Department and new fire <br />response and technology equipment. The plan also provides for an <br />emergency medical services technology and capital equipment <br />program to replace the aging vehicle fleet on a systematic basis <br />thereby decreasing down -time and increasing response reliability <br />and to replace mission critical medical devices in order to <br />perform accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment. The approved <br />plan will provide funding for personnel to attend training classes <br />and seminars, and to keep the fire training facility functioning <br />to insure the development of future fire fighters. <br />
