any interested individual or grou~formation or comments related to a submission. <br />(back to index) <br />51.37 Obtaining information from the submitting authority. <br />(a) If a submission does not satisfy the requirements of S 51.27, the Attorney General may request <br />from the submitting authority any omitted information considered necessary for the evaluation of the <br />submit>sion. The request shall be made by letter and shall be made within the 60-day period and as <br />promptly as possible after receipt of the original submission. See also S 51.26(d). <br />(b) A copy of the request shall be sent to any party who has commented on the submission or has <br />requested notice of the Attorney General's action thereon. <br />(c) The Attorney General shall notify the submitting authority that a new 60-day period in which the <br />Attorney General may interpose an objection shall commence upon the receipt of a response from <br />the submitting authority that provides the information requested or states that the information is <br />unavailable. The Attorney General can request further information within the new 60-day period, but <br />such a further request shall not suspend the running of the 60-day period, nor shall the receipt of a <br />response to such a request operate to begin a new 60-day period. <br />(d) The receipt of a response from the submitting authority that neither provides the information <br />reque:>ted nor states that such information is unavailable shall not commence a new 60-day period. <br />It is the practice of the Attorney General to notify the submitting authority that its response is <br />inadequate and to provide such notification as soon as possible after the receipt of the inadequate <br />response. <br />(e) If, after a request for further information is made pursuant to this section, the information <br />reque:>ted becomes available to the Attorney General from a source other than the submitting <br />authority, the Attorney General shall promptly notify the submitting authority by letter, and the 60-day <br />period will commence upon the date of such notification. <br />(f) Notice of the request for and receipt of further information will be given to interested parties <br />registE:red under S 51.32. <br />(back to index) <br />51.38 Obtaining information from others. <br />(a) The Attorney General may at any time request relevant information from governmental <br />jurisdictions and from interested groups and individuals and may conduct any investigation or other <br />inquiry that is deemed appropriate in making a determination. <br />(b) If a submission does not contain evidence of adequate notice to the public, and the Attorney <br />General believes that such notice is essential to a determination, steps will be taken by the Attorney <br />General to provide public notice sufficient to invite interested or affected persons to provide <br />evidence as to the presence or absence of a discriminatory purpose or effect. the submitting <br />authority shall be advised when any such steps are taken. <br />(back to index) <br />51.39 Supplementary submissions. <br />(a) When a submitting authority provides documents and written information materially <br />suppl~amenting a submission (or a request for reconsideration of an objection) for evaluation as if <br />
