(back to index) <br />51.44 Notiification of decision to object. <br />(a) They Attorney General shall within the 60-day period allowed notify the submitting authority of a <br />decision to interpose an objection. The reasons for the decision shall be stated. <br />(b) The: submitting authority shall be advised that the Attorney General will reconsider an objection <br />upon a request by the submitting authority. <br />(c) They submitting authority shall be advised further that notwithstanding the objection it may institute <br />an action in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for a declaratory judgment that the <br />changE; objected to by the Attorney General does not have the prohibited discriminatory purpose or <br />effect. <br />(d) A copy of the notification shall be sent to any party who has commented on the submission or <br />has requested notice of the Attorney General's action thereon. <br />(e) Noi:ice of the decision to interpose an objection will be given to interested parties registered <br />under S 51.32. <br />(back to index) <br />51.45 Request for reconsideration. <br />(a) The submitting authority may at any time request the Attorney General to reconsider an <br />objection. <br />(b) Requests may be in letter or any other written form and should contain relevant information or <br />legal argument. <br />(c) Notice of the request will be given to any party who commented on the submission or requested <br />notice of the Attorney General's action thereon and to interested parties registered under S 51.32. <br />In appropriate cases the Attorney General may request the submitting authority to give local public <br />notice of the request. <br />(back to index) <br />51.46 Reconsideration of objection at the instance of the Attorney General. <br />(a) Where there appears to have been a substantial change in operative factor relevant law, an <br />objection may be reconsidered, if it is deemed appropriate, at the instance of the Attorney General. <br />(b) Notice of such a decision to reconsider shall be given to the submitting authority, to any party <br />who commented on the submission or requested notice of the Attorney General's action thereon, <br />and to interested parties registered under S 51.32, and the Attorney General shall decide whether <br />to withdraw or to continue the objection only after such persons have had a reasonable opportunity <br />to comment. <br />(back to index) <br />51.47 Conference. <br />(a) A :submitting authority that has requested reconsideration of an objection pursuant to S 51.45 <br />may request a conference to produce information or legal argument in support of reconsideration. <br />
