Increased Voters Per Polling Location <br />In order to change polling locations, the following steps would need to take place: <br />. City Council Approval <br />. Preclearance From Justice Department (75 day process) <br />. Coordination With School and College District <br />. Compliance With Election Laws <br />The City Secretary has visited with both the La Porte Independent School District and San Jacinto <br />College District and they are in favor of reducing the number of polling locations. <br />If the Council wants to make this type of change, clearance submission to the Justice Department <br />would need to be submitted at least 75 days prior to passing an Ordinance calling the election. <br />The Secretary of State's Office was contacted and the City would not be required to seek approval <br />from that office per Section 42.061 of the Election Code.
