Herrera, Mayor Norman Malone and Planning Director
Doug Kneupper.
Others Present: None
2. Discuss Redistricting Map and Polling Locations
Assistant City Attorney Clark Askins reported he had contacted the Justice Department to
seek clarification on the +/- 5% guidelines. He informed the committee he was advised
that single member districts could be above or below the 5% variance as long as the
overall variance is not greater than a 10% spread between the lowest and highest district.
The committee discussed several options and still was not able to refrain from having
more than 3 districts in the Glen Meadows subdivision area. The committee discussed
map R-009-C and believe this map falls within the guidelines Mr. Askins clarified with
the Justice Department.
Staff was directed to double check the map and numbers, and report the findings to Mr.
Meismer, Chairperson. In addition, staff was directed to determine if there were any
options available to only have the Glen Meadows area represented by two districts, rather
than three.
3. Committee Comments
Mike Mosteit, District 1 reported he will not be available for the next meeting, but
supported the committee meeting without him.
