Discussion regarding the La Porte Development Corporation Board role after the restoration of <br />Sylvan Beach Pavilion — T. Leach <br />Assistant City Manager Traci Leach provided a summary regarding the role of the La Porte <br />Development Corporation Board after the restoration of Sylvan Beach Pavilion, which was <br />requested for discussion by Board member Woodard. <br />Board member Woodard proposed the La Porte Development Corporation Board consider the <br />possibility of assisting with a grand opening for the community after the restoration of Sylvan Beach <br />Pavilion. Mr. Woodard discussed charging a minimum fee for a musical play and food, with various <br />charities in the community benefitting from the profits. Mr. Woodard informed Board members he <br />spoke with Parks and Recreation Director Stephen Barr, and, also, a liaison at Harris County has <br />been contacted regarding a possible grand opening at Sylvan Beach Pavilion. Commissioner Jack <br />Morman is also aware. <br />Board member Ojeda questioned Board member Woodard if the proposed grand opening was a <br />"one-time" event. Mr. Woodard responded yes, it can be an event promoting the newly restored <br />Sylvan Beach Pavilion and the beach to individuals from other communities in the area. <br />Vice -President Cooksley questioned Board member Woodard if he is proposing the function after <br />an operator for the pavilion has been established. Mr. Woodard responded the grand opening can <br />be held after an operator has been established by Harris County. Vice -President Cooksley <br />questioned if Board member Woodard knew if Harris County has plans of hosting a grand opening. <br />Mr. Woodard responded no; but he would like the City to succeed at hosting a grand opening. <br />Vice -President Cooksley questioned if the City will be responsible in any manner for the restoration <br />of Sylvan Beach Pavilion. City Manager Corby Alexander responded there is no relationship or an <br />agreement at this time; and Harris County will hire an operator for the pavilion. <br />Vice -President Cooksley commented he was excited about the restoration of Sylvan Beach Pavilion <br />and having a facility in La Porte to host various functions. <br />Board member Woodard commented he does not know the completion date for the Sylvan Beach <br />Pavilion and had informed Parks and Recreation Director Stephen Barr he would propose the idea <br />of a grand opening to the board for discussion. <br />5. Set date for next meeting — C. Alexander <br />Board members set the next meeting date for April 22, 2013, at 5:00 p.m. to possibly award a <br />enhancement grant, discuss Lomax Arena and to receive an update on the Retail Market Analysis <br />and Strategy. <br />6.
