EM/ <br />WIRF7119�21 <br />WHEREAS, there are more than 20 million miles of buried utilities beneath the Earth's surface that are essential <br />to everyday living like water, electricity and natural gas; consequently, according to a recent Common Ground <br />Alliance Damage Information Reporting Tool (DIRT) Report, an underground utility line is damaged every six <br />minutes because someone decided to dig but didn't call 811., Service interruption, damage to the environment and <br />personal injury and even death are the potential results; and <br />WHEREAS, for a decade now 811 has served as an easy -to -remember phone number that has helped to prevent <br />damage and injuries across the nation; and <br />WHEREAS, through education of safe digging practices, excavators and homeowners can save time and money <br />keeping our nation safe and connected by making a simple call to 811 in advance of any digging project; waiting <br />the, required amount of time; respecting the marked lines by maintaining visual definition throughout the course of <br />the excavation; and finally, digging with care around the marks; and <br />WHEREAS, safe digging is a shared responsibility; to know what's below; and call 811 before you dig. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Louis R.
