rortamatton <br />office of the fRapor <br />'HEREAS, one in three women and one in ten men report abuse in their relationships in the form <br />physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic. Domestic violence affects women, <br />fildren and men of all racial, social, religious, ethnic and economic backgrounds; and <br />WHEREAS, approximately 3.3 million children witness domestic violence annually, which violence in <br />the home is the strongest indicator that it will be transferred to the next generation; and everyone deserves to <br />feel safe in their homes and communities; and <br />WHEREAS, no one person, organization, agency or community can eliminate domestic violence on their <br />own; but we can work together to educate our entire population about what can be done to prevent domestic <br />violence, support victim/survivors and their significant others, and increase support for agencies providing <br />services to victim/survivors; and <br />WHEREAS, Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month provides an excellent opportunity for cit- <br />izens of La Porte and surrounding communities to reduce domestic violence through prevention education, <br />increased awareness, encouraging every person to speak out when witnessing acts of violence, taking time <br />to talk about creating a healthy, respectful, and safe community, and holding perpetrators who commit acts of <br />violence responsible for their actions. <br />NOW, THEREFORE,1, Louis R.
