<br /> <br /> <br />Office of the Mayor <br />WHEREAS, one in three women and one in ten men report abuse in their relationships <br />in the form of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic. Domestic <br />violence affects women, children and men of all racial, social, religious, ethnic and <br />economic backgrounds; and <br />WHEREAS, approximately 3.3 million children witness domestic violence annually, which <br />violence in the home is the strongest indicator that will be transferred to the next generation; <br />and everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and communities; and <br />WHEREAS, no one person, organization, agency or community can eliminate domestic <br />violence on their own; but we can work together to educate our entire population about what <br />can be done to prevent domestic violence, support victim/survivors and their significant <br />others, and increase support for agencies providing services to victim/survivors; and <br />WHEREAS, Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month provides an excellent <br />opportunity for citizens of La Porte and surrounding communities to reduce domestic violence <br />through prevention, education, increased awareness, encouraging every person to speak out <br />when witnessing acts of violence, taking time to talk about creating a healthy, respectful, and <br />safe community, and holding perpetrators who commit acts of violence responsible for their <br />actions. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Louis R.
