ORDINANCE 2021-3827 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ST ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON THE 1 DAY OF MAY, 2021, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR, A COUNCILPERSON- DISTRICT 2, AND A COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 3; THE RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL ST MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON THE 1 DAY OF MAY, 2021, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADOPTING OR REJECTING PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE LA PORTE, TEXAS, HOME RULE CITY CHARTER; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF THE ELECTION WAS DULY AND PROPERLY GIVEN, THAT THE ELECTION WAS PROPERLY HELD AND RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; CONTAINING AN OPEN MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, The regular municipal election of the City of La Porte, Texas, for election of members of the City Council as prescribed by Section 2.03 of the City Charter, and the special election were held on the 1st day of May 2021, in the city, for the purpose of electing a Mayor, a Councilperson-District 2, and a Councilperson-District 3; and WHEREAS the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, after considering the recommendations of the 2021 Charter Review Commission of La Porte, has on its own motion determined to submit to the qualified voters for adoption or rejection certain proposed amendments to the existing Home Rule Charter of the City of La Porte, Texas, pursuant to Section 9.004(a) of the Texas Local Government Code; and WHEREAS the election was held under and pursuant to the provisions of Ordinances 2021-3816 calling the general election and 2021-33814 calling the special election, respectively; and WHEREAS the elections having been duly and regularly held as called and provided in said ordinances and according to law, and the returns thereof having been made and the election judges having certified the results of the election, as hereinafter set out, and the City Council having duly and regularly canvassed the returns of the election and finding that the total votes cast at the election were as follows: MAYOR-AT-LARGE RANDY ROWAN 255 LOUIS RIGBY 772 COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 2 SHERYL VALVERDE 9 CHUCK ENGELKEN, JR. 89 COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 3 BILL BENTLEY 76 PROPOSITION A FOR 818 AGAINST 126
