ORDINANCE 2021-3827 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL <br />ST <br />ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON THE 1 DAY OF MAY, 2021, <br />FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR, A COUNCILPERSON- DISTRICT 2, <br />AND A COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 3; THE RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL <br />ST <br />MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON THE 1 <br /> DAY <br />OF MAY, 2021, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADOPTING OR REJECTING PROPOSED <br />AMENDMENTS TO THE LA PORTE, TEXAS, HOME RULE CITY CHARTER; <br />DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF THE <br />ELECTION WAS DULY AND PROPERLY GIVEN, THAT THE ELECTION WAS <br />PROPERLY HELD AND RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS <br />IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE; CONTAINING A <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; CONTAINING A REPEALING CLAUSE; CONTAINING AN <br />OPEN MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />WHEREAS, The regular municipal election of the City of La Porte, Texas, for election of members of <br />the City Council as prescribed by Section 2.03 of the City Charter, and the special election <br />were held on the 1st day of May 2021, in the city, for the purpose of electing a Mayor, a <br />Councilperson-District 2, and a Councilperson-District 3; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, after considering the recommendations of <br />the 2021 Charter Review Commission of La Porte, has on its own motion determined to <br />submit to the qualified voters for adoption or rejection certain proposed amendments to the <br />existing Home Rule Charter of the City of La Porte, Texas, pursuant to Section 9.004(a) of <br />the Texas Local Government Code; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the election was held under and pursuant to the provisions of Ordinances 2021-3816 calling <br />the general election and 2021-33814 calling the special election, respectively; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the elections having been duly and regularly held as called and provided in said ordinances <br />and according to law, and the returns thereof having been made and the election judges <br />having certified the results of the election, as hereinafter set out, and the City Council <br />having duly and regularly canvassed the returns of the election and finding that the total <br />votes cast at the election were as follows: <br /> <br />MAYOR-AT-LARGE <br />RANDY ROWAN 255 <br />LOUIS RIGBY 772 <br /> <br />COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 2 <br />SHERYL VALVERDE 9 <br />CHUCK ENGELKEN, JR. 89 <br /> <br />COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 3 <br />BILL BENTLEY 76 <br /> <br />PROPOSITION A <br />FOR 818 <br />AGAINST 126 <br /> <br /> <br />
