Office of the Mayor <br />WHEREAS,Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week <br />th <br />of October 9,in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began <br />on October 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage. The 2023 Fire <br />Prevention Week theme, Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to <br />fire prevention., effectively serves to remind us to stay alert and use caution <br />when cooking to reduce the risk of kitchen fires. <br />WHEREAS,we recognize all fire personnel, both paid and volunteer, for their <br />dedication and response to emergencies within our city; and <br />WHEREAS,the La Porte Fire Department commits to providing the most effective <br />and progressive Fire Prevention, Fire Protection,and First Responder programs, <br />in an efficient, responsible manner, through training, equipment, and protocols for <br />the firefighters whorespond. For our community, thesafety of the public is of <br />paramount importance, along with the safety of our first responders, the <br />environment,and property; and <br />WHEREAS,the City of La Porte can trace some existence of a fire department <br />back to 1892, we proudly recognize all fire personnel, both paid and volunteer, for <br />their dedication and response to emergencies for over130 years. <br />NOW, THEREFORE,I, Louis R.
