- 302.1 — Exterior Walls —Change Summary: Unprotected roof overhangs are now permitted to <br />project to within 2 feet of the property line when fireWocking is installed between the top of the <br />wall and the roof sheathing. M most cases, projections are not permitted less than 2 feet from <br />the property line. For dwellings with or without fire sprinkler protection, penetrations of <br />exterior walls do not require fire-resistant protection unless they are located less than 3 feet <br />from the property line. <br />- 304.1 — Minimum HabitabIle Room Area — Change Summary: The requirement for one habitable <br />room with a minimum floor area of 120 sq, feet has been removed from the code. <br />- 305.1 — Ceiling Height — Change Summary: The minimum ceiling height for bathrooms, toilet <br />rooms and laundry rooms has been reduced to 6 feet 8 inches. The exception for allowing <br />beams, girders, ducts, or other obstructions to project to within 6 feet, 4 inches of the finished <br />floor has been expanded to include basements with habitable space. <br />- 311.1 — Means of Egress — Change Summary: The required egress door of a dwelling unit must <br />open directly into a public way or to a yarcl or court that opens to a public way. <br />- 31I.B — Ramps — Change Summary: Ramps that do not serve the required egress door are now <br />permitted to have a slope not greater than I unit vertical in 8 units hoOzontal. <br />- 314 — Smoke Alarms — Location: Battery. -operated smoke alarms are permitted for satisfying the <br />smoke alarm power requirements when alterations, repairs, and additions occur. Household fire <br />alarm systems no longer require monitoring by an aippiroved suipervising station. New provisions <br />address smoke alarms installed near bathrooms and cooking appliances. <br />o 314.3 — Location — Smoke alarms shall be installed in the following locations: <br />4.
