ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES <br /> ADVANTAGES <br /> • Voter Convenience/Improved Customer Service <br /> • Cost Savings (See Exhibit B) <br /> • Reduction in Margin of Error <br /> DISADVANTAGES <br /> • Change Can Be Difficult <br /> • Requires Justice Department Approval <br /> • Possible Increased Travel Distance to Polling Place <br /> • Increased Voters Per Polling Location <br /> In order to change polling locations, the following steps would need to take place: <br /> • City Council Approval <br /> • Preclearance From Justice Department (75 day process) <br /> • Coordination With School and College District <br /> • Compliance With Election Laws <br /> If the Council wants to make this type of change, clearance submission to the Justice Department <br /> would need to be submitted at least 75 days prior to passing an Ordinance calling the election. <br /> The Secretary of State's Office was contacted and the City would not be required to seek approval <br /> from that office per Section 42.061 of the Election Code. City's have the authority to set polling <br /> locations. <br /> The City Attorney also provided a recommendation on this matter (see Exhibit C) . <br /> POSSIBLE POLLING LOCATIONS <br /> Three Polling Location Options <br /> City Hall - Districts 5 and 6 <br /> DeWalt - Districts 1 and 4 <br /> Lomax - Districts 1 and 4 <br /> Baker - Districts 2, 3 and 7 <br /> Two Polling Location Options <br /> City Hall - Districts4, 5and6 <br /> DeWalt - Districts 4, 5 and 6 <br /> Recreation Fitness Center Training Room - Districts 4, 5 and 6 <br /> 3 --3 <br />
